Jim Schmidt



Jim co-founded Alexander & Schmidt in 1986. For nearly a quarter century he has helped to build the company and lead its management team. Jim launched his insurance career in the 1970s, in the loss control department of The Hartford, of Hartford, Connecticut. He worked in New York and Maine, calling on a variety of large complex accounts. In 1984 he became a loss control manager for Penn General Services, directing a staff that provided services for $25,000,000 in workers’ compensation premiums. 

John Natale, CPCU, ARM, ALCM



John leads Alexander & Schmidt’s national Business Development and client management team. He has over thirty years of insurance carrier experience, with fifteen years in Loss Control management. John most recently served as Vice President–Marketing for Concord Group Insurance Companies, an affiliate of Auto-Owners Insurance Company. Previously, with Royal & Sun Alliance, John was Branch Vice President–Northern New England (Bedford, NH) and Loss Control Manager in Syracuse, New York. 

Marella Schmidt-Baker

Executive Vice President


Marella Schmidt-Baker has spent nearly a decade acquiring a deep knowledge of loss control as a member of the leadership team at Alexander & Schmidt. She has excellent hands on experience leading the company’s Talent Acquisition and Human Resources initiatives including policy design, benefit administration, employee relations and staffing management. Marella has led her team to increase independent loss control consultant onboarding by 10% from previous years and nearly doubling candidates in the pipeline at any given time.

Marella has a Bachelors of Science in Child Development and Family Relations from University of Maine. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource management (SHRM) and Human Resources Association of Southern Maine (HRASM). Marella is a graduate of Dale Carnegie Course: Skills for Success and University of Southern Maine’s Human Resources certificate program.

Charlotte Clark

Accounting Manager


Charlotte Clark is a key member of the leadership team at Alexander & Schmidt and is responsible for providing accounting services as well as financial information and projections to management by researching and analyzing accounting data.  Throughout her more than 10 years at Alexander & Schmidt, Charlotte has gained extensive knowledge of the loss control industry. Her previous position as the company’s Operations Manager and 12 years prior process administration experience in a production environment have both contributed significantly to her current role here at Alexander & Schmidt. 

Jim Grant

Director of Information Technology


Jim is an accomplished Information Technology executive with over 25 years of management and leadership experience in the manufacturing industry. He oversees information technology systems that support Alexander & Schmidt’s technical operations and quality assurance teams, providing Loss Control services for many of the nation’s leading insurance carriers. The company’s systems also support the work of their more than 500 field representatives and loss control consultants, performing tens of thousands of onsite risk assessments across the country annually. Jim also guides Alexander & Schmidt’s enterprise-wide integration of its proprietary Risk Assessment Management Program (RAMP)—the company’s comprehensive quality assurance and productivity-enhancing platform.

Prior to joining Alexander & Schmidt, Jim served as Director of IT Regional School unit 5 where he worked for over 25 years in technology support and systems administration. Jim also served the community for 30 years by providing leadership to his local school board, the Vocational Regional Ten School Board of Directors and the Maine School Boards Association. Prior to his career in computer technology, Jim worked in television production.
