Jim Schmidt
Jim SchmidtPresident
Jim co-founded Alexander & Schmidt in 1986. For nearly a quarter century he has helped to build the company and lead its management team. Jim launched his insurance career in the 1970s, in the loss control department of The Hartford, of Hartford, Connecticut. He worked in New York and Maine, calling on a variety of large complex accounts. In 1984 he became a loss control manager for Penn General Services, directing a staff that provided services for $25,000,000 in workers’ compensation premiums.
Lynne Gaudette
Lynne GaudetteManaging Director
Lynne is an accomplished leader with over 35 years of risk-management-related experience. In addition to serving as a Loss Control engineer in the commercial insurance industry she has led administrative and safety functions in not-for-profit and for-profit businesses, and consulted with peers nationwide. Her direction in these roles enabled two of her employers to earn Federal OSHA’s prestigious Voluntary Protection Program status.

In her leadership role at Alexander & Schmidt, Lynne plans, directs and oversees the daily operations of the company. She plays a vital role in strategic planning, organizational design, and developing and managing cohesive work teams that continually strive to attain customer-focused efficiencies and effective operations of the business.

Lynne holds a Master of Public Administration from Norwich University and a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Rehabilitation from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She has a Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from University of Southern Maine and is a Board Certified Safety Professional, retired. She has held numerous volunteer positions including Board of Directors President of the Safety & Health Council of Northern New England.

Charlotte Clark
Charlotte ClarkAccounting Manager
Charlotte Clark is a key member of the leadership team at Alexander & Schmidt and is responsible for providing accounting services as well as financial information and projections to management by researching and analyzing accounting data.  Throughout her more than 10 years at Alexander & Schmidt, Charlotte has gained extensive knowledge of the loss control industry. Her previous position as the company’s Operations Manager and 12 years prior process administration experience in a production environment have both contributed significantly to her current role here at Alexander & Schmidt.
Patrick Hill
Patrick HillTechnical Services Manager
Patrick Hill runs Alexander & Schmidt’s quality assurance operations, overseeing all technical functions. Pat has over 25 years of experience in the occupational safety and health field, the last 12 years of which have been spent at A&S. Pat has been involved with the development of a nationally recognized safety program and assisted OSHA in the development of new standards for the shipyard industry. Pat has trained countless loss control professionals and is the author of a recently published college textbook entitled Defining Risk Assessment.
Peter Chart
Peter ChartQuality Assurance Manager
Pete oversees quality assurance operations at Alexander & Schmidt. He comes to the company as an accomplished business and Loss Control consultant, with expertise in the restaurant, hospitality, habitation, small manufacturing, and construction industries. In this role he has assisted numerous Maine small business owners reduce their operational costs by improving hiring practices, establishing a positive safety culture, and stressing the importance of good contracts with customers and sub-contractors. His site surveys, workplace safety workshops and accurate, timely reports to underwriters have helped ensure workers compensation policies and property risk assessments accurately reflect the scope of operations.

He also brings 22 years’ experience in the US Navy, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer. Among other accomplishments during his service to the country he led the flight operations for 4 Wing squadrons encompassing 36 aircraft and over 520 flight crew personnel located throughout the world during forward wartime and surge operations. He led officer and enlisted aircrew in all facets of operations including safety and training, personnel management and all administrative functions.

In his post-military service as a civilian contractor he demonstrated proven liaison skills between Department of Defense contractors, Federal Acquisition personnel, engineering test teams and the private business sector providing quality end projects for Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security and other Government agencies.

Scott Patterson, MSc, CSP, CPEA
Scott Patterson, MSc, CSP, CPEADirector of Business Development & Client Relations
Scott Patterson is highly regarded Loss Prevention executive with over 30 years of management and leadership experience. As Director of Business Development & Client Relations, he brings his risk assessment and risk improvement expertise to Alexander & Schmidt’s quality assurance and technical operations groups. He also overseas the company’s environmental liability and other specialized risk control services offerings. Scott previously served in a number of managerial and leadership roles in home office, regional and field operations positions at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company. He served as Loss Prevention Manager for Liberty’s eight regional companies, helping to establish Loss Prevention best practices and administering Loss Prevention systems for the underwriting and Loss Prevention departments. Scott has extensive experience in designing and developing training programs and technical resources, including customer and internal training programs for participants from Argentina, Australia, Canada, China, Ireland, Mexico, Malaysia and the U.K. He is a former guest lecturer on safety at the Harvard School of Public Health, Center for Continuing Professional Education, and a former adjunct staff member of the Keene State College (NH) Safety Studies Department.
Marella Schmidt-Baker
Marella Schmidt-BakerHR Senior Talent Acquisition
Marella Schmidt-Baker has spent nearly decade acquiring a deep knowledge of loss control as a member of the leadership team at Alexander & Schmidt. She has excellent hands on experience leading the company’s Talent Acquisition and Human Resources initiatives including policy design, benefit administration, employee relations and staffing management. Marella has led her team to increase independent loss control consultant onboarding by 10% from previous years and nearly doubling candidates in the pipeline at any given time.

Marella has a Bachelors of Science in Child Development and Family Relations from University of Maine. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource management (SHRM) and Human Resources Association of Southern Maine (HRASM). Marella is a graduate of Dale Carnegie Course: Skills for Success and University of Southern Maine’s Human Resources certificate program.

Randy Porter
Randy PorterDirector of Information Technology
Randy is an accomplished Information Technology executive with over 25 years of management and leadership experience in the manufacturing industry. He oversees information technology systems that support Alexander & Schmidt’s technical operations and quality assurance teams, providing Loss Control services for many of the nation’s leading insurance carriers. The company’s systems also support the work of their more than 350 field representatives and loss control consultants, performing tens of thousands of onsite risk assessments across the country annually. Randy also guides Alexander & Schmidt’s enterprise-wide integration of its proprietary Risk Assessment Management Program (RAMP)—the company’s comprehensive quality assurance and productivity-enhancing platform. Prior to joining Alexander & Schmidt, Randy served as Director of IT Security and Compliance at Fairchild Semiconductor, the Fortune-1000 company where he worked for over 25 years. He managed the corporation’s information technology security program, covering security, compliance, and disaster recovery. His work involved performing security assessments and gap analyses in order to set company strategy. In addition, his responsibilities included developing IT security policies aligned to the ISO-27001 framework. He also conducted annual network vulnerability assessments and directed subsequent remediations. Randy’s work also involved performing internal IT General Control audits for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance. His team managed the enterprise disaster recovery program. Earlier in his tenure at Fairchild Semiconductor, Randy served as the Manager of Enterprise IT Infrastructure and earlier still as a System Administrator.
